Let’s Play!

If you prefer simplicity, set up one of these activities per day around the Fourth of July.

For the parents who prefer to GO ALL OUT, set up stations and let your preschooler explore each of these 5 activities for a day full of excitement!

These would also be perfect to set-up at your Fourth of July BBQ with friends and family to keep your little ones entertained while waiting for the big firework show.

There are so many great options here!

Fizzy Stars

Make fizzy stars with baking soda and vinegar, and watch your child have fun making them fizz and sparkle!

It’s so easy to differentiate this activity for Pre-K kiddos and toddlers or based on motor abilities.

Kid version

  1. Make a baking soda & water paste
  2. Mix with dye (@discountschoolsupply liquid watercolors are the BEST!)
  3. Freeze in a star-shaped mold
  4. Use droppers of vinegar to make the stars fizz

Toddler version (pictured above)

  1. Dump baking soda loosely in a mold
  2. Add some sparkles or confetti
  3. Use a cup to pour vinegar and watch the magic happen!

This activity is so much fun for littles but is likely to be MESSY– in the best, most educational way of course!

TIP: Lay a beach towel or old bath towel under your container for easy cleanup when the splashing ensues.

DIY Fireworks Craft

Create DIY fireworks with paint.

Along with paper and paint, grab a few common household items and invite your kiddos to try different “stamp” options to make fireworks. Then, add glitter for some sparkly pizzaz!

Here are a few easy options:

  • bendy straws
  • dish brush
  • toilet paper roll

Grab this paint mat freebie to make it super easy!

Rocket Paint Foot

Beat the heat with a firecracker popsicle and make a super cute footprint painting, too!

How to:

  1. With your child sitting down, paint the top, middle, and bottom of your child’s foot with a different color
  2. While bending their knee, help them firmly press their foot onto a piece of paper
  3. After it’s dried, cut around the footprint and glue it onto another piece of paper
  4. Draw the “popsicle stick” and add confetti stars for extra fun

This is a sweet keepsake piece for you or grandparents, and your little one will be sure to agree if they know they get to have a yummy cold treat!

Red, White, and Blue Star Sort

Grab the 4th of July Sorting & Graphing Mat and your Red, White, & Blue Crunch, and you’re all set!

With this snacktivity (snack + activity!), your little one will practice sorting the pieces by color and graphing them. They’ll be having so much fun, they won’t even realize they’re doing a math lesson in the middle of summer.

You can also use candies, stickers, erasers, pom-poms, or any other small festive items you have on hand.⁣

The 4th of July Sorting & Graphing Mat includes 3 activity mats:

  • Red, White & Blue sorting⁣
  • Red, White & Blue graphing⁣
  • Red, White & Blue roll & graph (5 printable dice included!)⁣

Cereal Name

Here’s another way to use the festive Captain Crunch cereal:

Build names with red, white, and blue stars! ⁣

If your kiddo isn’t quite ready for the gooey glue bottle, pour some glue in a small cup and let them swipe it on with a q-tip. Super easy differentiation.

This activity is a great way to for your preschooler to practice their pincer grasp (fine motor skill) by placing one small item at a time onto their name. They’ll also be working on hand-eye coordination, gluing skills, name/letter formation, and creativity.⁣

If you’d rather not use cereal or don’t have it on hand, don’t worry! There are lots of other easy replacements that will be just as fun:

  • Pom-poms
  • Stickers
  • Stars from a star paper punch⁣
  • Red, white, and blue chocolate-coated candies

Display the Finished Products!

Don’t forget to display your little one’s finished work. Seeing their art displayed promotes increased self-confidence, shows that their creativity is valued, and demonstrates your love.

Use magnets to stick the art on your fridge, clip the pictures to a long string that you hang across the wall, or use tape and stick the creations to the back of the front door!

Most importantly, enjoy the memories you’ll make while completing these hands-on activities with your preschooler this Fourth of July!
